HISTORY

The origins of W.D. Manor dates back to the 1930’s when Willis D. Manor (W.D. Manor) started his career in the plumbing and heating business as an apprentice, eventually establishing his own company, W.D. Manor Plumbing and Heating.

Manor was a natural leader. His ability to attract and keep efficient people was the key to his company’s immediate and continuing success. He was flexible and worked constantly to meet the changing and ever increasing complexities of the industry.

In 1950 Wally T. Sigmundson joined the Manor organization as a partner in charge of estimating and office administration. Several years later he became co-owner, stockholder and executive vice president. In 1960, the firm incorporated, and Sigmundson became executive vice president.  After 30 years as head of the company, W. D. retired in 1975 and Wally took over as president.

Wally retired in 1978 after a successful 28 years with the company and sold the company to Robert J. Leivian, Ron Turlington, David Manor, and Bill Crowe.  In 1987, this new ownership team led W.D. Manor to develop a full-service, Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning (HVAC) division to provide additional service to its growing customer base and offer a full complement of mechanical services under one roof.  By 1995, Bill Crowe was the sole owner of W.D. Manor Plumbing and Heating and the company relocated from the 27th Avenue location which it occupied for 41 years, to its current 23rd Avenue location.  Along with the move came a change of the company name, from W.D. Manor Plumbing and Heating to W.D. Manor Mechanical Contractors.

Currently the company is owned and operated by Bryan DeWitt and Don Petty who took ownership of the company in 1999.  Today W.D. Manor serves the entire state of Arizona, generating annual revenue of up to $40 million, and employing over 300 people.
