GREEN DESIGN
W.D. Manor understands the construction industry’s growing desire to implement green design. Our customers recognize the many benefits of using construction methods that significantly reduce or eliminate the negative impact of buildings on the environment. The benefits are not only felt in the environment, but also have a positive impact on the overall productivity of the building occupants and profitability of a company’s bottom line through building operation cost saving.
During the course of a building's lifecycle, all buildings leave a negative imprint on the environment. The implementation of “green design” minimizes that impact. The USGBC (U.S. Green Building Council) was organized to represent the entire building industry and promote the design, construction, and operation of buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable, and healthy places to live and work. The USGBC developed the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Rating system to define “green building”. The LEED certification process has been recognized and accepted industry wide. The rating system is based on six categories: Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy & Atmosphere, Materials & Resources, Indoor Environmental Quality and Innovation & Design Process. Credits are earned in each category to meet the desired certification. There are four levels of LEED certification a building can achieve: Certified, Silver, Gold and Platinum.
Mechanical systems play the largest role in achieving points for any level of LEED certification. Therefore, we prefer to get involved early in the design phase to learn of the owner’s goals for the project and to allow for the highest LEED certification at the lowest expense. WDM has employees who specialize in green design. They attend seminars and workshops and are accredited professionals (APs) by LEED standards. Our LEED® APs suggest innovative ideas and implementation of the most recent ecologically aware technologies.
